With offices in Melbourne, Sydney and New Zealand DraftFCB needed an intranet which was not only a main place for staff to be able to access a variety of resources, but also a place where they could share photos, banter and discussion to help build the team moral and bridge the distances between offices.
Speaking to a variety of people around the office I could see that everyone had their own ideas of what they did and did not want on the intranet. My list of key functionality was prioritised and I set to work to understand the way people would be using the intranet depending on their job types.
I started by getting a rough idea of pages we would be needing now and in future phases of the project. I then ran card sorting workshops with the staff and built a site map out of these results.
The home page was the key to keeping people engaged with the site, so I planned out ideas for the home page in rough wireframe form which I then ran past members of staff to get their feedback. Reworks were done for the results of these meetings and finally a home page wireframe was agreed and the visual design phase started.
The website was continually ran past members of staff whilst in design and development stages, this ensured that we not only knew the visual design worked successfully but the functionality worked logically and was understood by the user.
